Meet Polar. Polar is a virtual music artist created by The Soul Publishing known for her striking turquoise hair, signature face mask, and unique TikTok moves. She’s typically shy and quiet in her personal life, but when she puts on her mask, she feels confident and empowered to become a virtual music star.
Every day Polar is working towards her dream of becoming a major music artist alongside the icons she looks up to such as Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, and Marshmello. She releases original music and covers of popular songs such as ‘Bad Guy’ by Billie Eilish on her YouTube channel with nearly 350k subscribers.
Today I sat down with Polar to learn more about her life, career, and dreams of making it big someday. Enjoy!
[Christopher] Hey Polar! It’s great to catch up with you. How are you today?
Hi Christopher! It's a great pleasure to meet you, too! Everything is cool! I’m working on a lot of plans, projects, and, of course, I am thinking about my next songs.
I love your look! Is your mask a COVID precaution, or does it represent something else stylistically?
You're right, with this COVID situation I kinda blend in, don’t I?
To be honest, I am just not brave enough yet to show my face. I think I might reveal my identity when I reach 1 million followers on Spotify. I really feel the support of my listeners and it keeps me going!
Awesome! Your “Close to You” music video is about a virtual being who has a crush on a human. What inspired this story?
I find my inspiration in many things! In this case, the movie ‘Blade Runner 2049’ by Denis Villeneuve and the story of Officer K and Joi have definitely influenced me a lot.
But generally, I think we already live in a reality where it doesn’t matter if you are a human or a virtual person. The only thing that matters is what you stand for and how engaging your art is.
Speaking of inspiration, what inspired you to start creating music in the first place?
Honestly I'm kind of a music lover. A lot of music inspires me and last year I decided to try to record my first song. I made a lot of demos and tried to find my style. It was hard to release my first song publicly, but it worked out very well, so I am grateful to my listeners.
So, what would your dream artist collaboration be?
First of all, I am very happy for our upcoming human and virtual human collaboration with Rasster. I admire his work! And I hope that will be one of many collaborations with human artists to come. Creating a song together with Ariana Grande or Marshmello, though—what a dream!
Also, I’m hoping to do something together with my fellow virtual artists. But it might be too early to talk about. *smiles*
By the way, who do you think I'd make a great song with?
Oh, people don’t typically ask me the questions! Well, based on your vibe and your lyrics, I think you would pair super well with this artist named Litany, out of London! Anyways, congratulations on hitting 1.2 million TikTok followers! What is your favorite part about the app?
Thank you, Christopher. I would say freedom, community, and creativity. There’s no place for hate, and I really like it.
Do you have any advice for other virtual creators looking to find success in their careers?
I truly believe that it's important to be yourself and love what you do. That's the only way to succeed. There is a lot of deception in the world right now and sincerity is really appealing.
At the same time, working hard is key. There are never too many songs to write or too many genres to try. Constantly searching for better ideas and self-development—that’s what brings results, not luck.
Wow! If you could say anything to your fans reading this, what would you want them to know?
I would like to thank you 3,000 times (Hello, Mr. Stark)! My fans and, actually, my friends: I love you so much and, as I said before, I read all your messages and comments and try to answer all of them. You’re my inspiration!
Are there any new songs or other projects you can share the details of with us?
With some, I can share. For example, I already mentioned that I'm working on a joint song with a platinum artist Rasster, and it's all thanks to my fans, because they tagged him and he had no way out *laughs*. I also want to try to perform my songs in the metaverse. We are already planning something huge, but I am always open to new suggestions from game creators.
We are also, of course, planning a lot of new songs and experiments. I am trying my best to release at least 2 songs per month! One of my favorites now is “Redhead Girl” which we recorded together with the wonderful Modeness. The song was released on March 4th.
I’ll check it out! Well, finally, I love to ask every virtual influencer this closing question: Who are you, Polar?
I'm just a young girl who loves to enjoy life, sing, and dance, but at the same time my goal is to take my place at the top alongside with the stars like Ariana Grande, Marshemello, and Olivia Rodrigo. Thank you, Christopher, for the interesting conversation!
Yes! Thank you for chatting with me, Polar! Talk again soon.
